Limehurst Academy Celebrates Culture Day With Community, Curriculum and British Values in Focus

Limehurst Academy marked its annual Celebration of Culture Day on 12th February, showcasing the rich diversity of its school community through cultural dress, visiting speakers and local educational visits.

Students arrived in clothing reflecting their heritage, turning the school into a vibrant display of global traditions. The day also included cultural workshops and visits to nearby places of worship - activities that strengthened students’ understanding of different faiths and beliefs while deepening community links.

Mr Sandhu, Deputy Headteacher, described the day as “a great example of what makes Limehurst such a special place. Our students learn not only from experts and visitors, but from one another, understanding that though we come from different backgrounds, there is so much that unites us. Culture Day allows students to express who they are with pride while developing the respect, curiosity and understanding that sit at the heart of our school values.”

Students echoed this sentiment. Year 9 student, Amira, said, “I loved being able to express and share my background and culture with my friends. It made me feel proud and I learned so much about other people’s backgrounds too.”

Year 10 student, Ben, added, “Visiting local places of worship helped me understand more about different cultures. It made me realise how important respect is and opened my eyes to our wider school community.”

Events throughout the day were closely linked to the curriculum, supporting learning in subjects such as History, Personal Development and Citizenship. The activities also played a key role in strengthening the school’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural provision - encouraging students to reflect, engage with new perspectives and appreciate the diversity of modern Britain.

The initiative further reinforced the school’s commitment to Fundamental British Values, particularly mutual respect, tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, and individual liberty through positive identity expression and shared cultural dialogue.

Mrs Corker, Assistant Headteacher, reflected on the wider impact: “Culture Day brings our curriculum to life. It supports students’ personal development, strengthens community cohesion and promotes the values we want all young people to uphold.”

Limehurst Academy plans to continue expanding opportunities that celebrate diversity, enhance social understanding and prepare students to thrive as confident, responsible members of society.
