● Literature Paper 1: Shakespeare and Post-1914 text (50%) 1 hour 45 minutes
● Literature Paper 2: 19th Century Fiction and Poetry (50%) 2 hours 15 minutes

Literature Paper 1: Shakespeare and Post-1914 text (80 marks)

Section A: Macbeth
Q1a: Extract from the play (20 marks)
Q1b: Question on the play as a whole (20 marks)
(40 marks)

Section B: Blood Brothers OR Animal Farm
Choice of two questions.

Key Skills for Literature Paper 1

  • Maintain a critical style and develop an informed personal response
  • Use textual references and quotations to support ideas
  • Analyse the language, form and structure and how it creates meaning and effects
  • Use subject terminology
  • Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written
  • Use accurate SPaG

How can students revise?

  • Re-read set texts
  • Practise responding to exam style questions using exam strategies
  • Practise writing up responses in time allowed
  • Give practise responses to English teacher to mark and give feedback
  • Attend revision sessions
  • Use revision guides and resources available from school
