PGL Caythorpe Court

On Monday 5th March 2018, staff and students left Limehurst Academy full of excitement on route to PGL’s Caythorpe Court site in Lincolnshire. From the outset it was obvious this was going to be a fun packed trip based on the energy echoing around the inside of the bus. On arrival at PGL we were greeted in the usual PGL style with our very helpful and enthusiastic group leader, Adam, welcoming us to Caythorpe Court.

After settling into our accommodation students were taken on a tour of the site, whilst also playing some team building games which introduced the theme of the trip superbly. After lunch students got straight into the first activities which included Zip Wire, Challenge Course and Giants Swing. Students approached these activities full of enthusiasm and worked well as a team to overcome some personal and team challenges.  Some students managed to conquer their fear of heights on the Zip Wire, with a little encouragement from their peers, and felt a huge sense of achievement after showing such great resilience, this was brilliant to see.  Monday's fun afternoon of activities were capped off with a campfire, where staff and students sang songs, told stories and learnt about fire safety in the countryside. This was a really nice activity to end the first day of the trip.

On Tuesday students woke up full of excitement about the activities planned for the day ahead, including Raft Building, Archery, Trapeze and Orienteering. Some ended up a little wet following the testing of their rafts however others were more successful and managed to remain dry while paddling across the lake. The Trapeze proved to be a test of willpower and bravery for many. A number of students flew to the top of the Trapeze pole in absolutely fearless fashion and some managed to scramble up as high as they could, therefore overcoming their fear  of heights to the best of their ability, this was fantastic to see. On Tuesday evening students participated in a very tactical game of Ambush, which led to staff and students working together to seek other teams hidden in the woods, great fun was had everyone.

On Wednesday morning, the very tired students woke up to sunshine and a busy morning of orienteering and climbing. During the climbing session students learnt how to correctly use a harness, belay a rope and climb in a safe manor. After students had participated in their last activity we played games on the lawn outside the court house before lunch and our departure back to Limehurst Academy. Students thanked the PGL staff for their outstanding organisation, enthusiasm, well lead activities, the high quality of the catering and all the fun they had over the three day residential trip.

Both the PGL and Limehurst staff were impressed with the students “have a go” and daring attitude, as well as the teamwork and encouragement given by all students to those who were a little more fearful of certain activity. Some students enjoyed more of a leadership role on activities throughout the trip and showed excellent communication and teamwork skills, well done!

A huge well done and thank you to all of the students involved in the Year 8 PGL Trip to Caythope Court 2018 on behalf of the Limehurst Academy staff, you were amazing!!!
