Music

Welcome to the Music Department

Our aim at Limehurst is to give pupils the confidence to develop their own musical skills both inside and outside of the classroom.  We build upon pupils’ broad experiences from their primary schools with a great emphasis placed upon group work and respecting each other.

We are currently running a class band in our year 7 classes whereby all students in the year receive one terms experience of playing a wind instrument in a concert band setting

We have two main teaching areas, one equipped with computers and keyboards, allowing composing using a range of I.C.T. as well as listening activities.  The other room is an open space containing our percussion instruments and is used for group work, whole class singing, extra curricular activities and hosts our 4 Steel Bands.

We also have a range of practise rooms, a recording studio and a Performing Arts Studio.

Extra Curriculum

Extra Curriculum activities are very important to the Music Department and clubs for both musicans and non-musicians take place weekly.  We have a school band that rehearse each week as well as hand bells and often a school choir.

The Loughborough Schools’ Area Orchestra

The Loughborough Schools’ Area Orchestra are also based at Limehurst and meet weekly during term time.  Young people from primary and secondary schools across the area come together and rehearse in our Performing Arts Studio.  It is conducted by our Head of Music and several concerts take place throughout the year.
